Mares
Gewels
Barn Name: Gewels
Training Level: Advanced Driving
and Advanced Riding
Gewels is our 1st Newfoundland Pony we purchased in 2014. We trained her to drive and ride with the help of Grace Wizniak and Elele Fatteicher as the jockeys. Then her debut show was in 2016 at the Equus Survival Trust Festivale of Endangered Equines & SANA Rare Breeds Show in Lexington, VA where Grace and I showed Gewels in 13 classes. She couldn’t have made us more proud placing in 12 of those classes, and winning Reserve Champion Open Pony under 2 UK judges. Everyone there started calling her the “unflappable” pony as they were so impressed with her calm demeanor and taking everything in stride for her 1st show.
After that show, we gave her time off from the show ring to be a broodmare, as we bred Master to her before he was gelded. They produced a sharp looking bay colt who found his new home in Moose Jaw, Sk., where he will become part of an Equine Assisted Learning program.
Gewels returned to the show ring in 2019 with my youngest niece, Annika, as her handler. They competed in showmanship, leadline, walk/trot western classes, costume class and gymkhana events.
Gewels has proved herself in the show ring, excelled as a childs mount and driving pony so now she will fulfill her very important job as a broodmare especially since she is the offspring of one of the foundation sires, Admiral Shalloway. In 2021 we bought a Newfoundland stallion to breed Gewels to in order to help increase the numbers of the critically endangered Newfoundland Pony.
Cleghorn Golden Slippers
Barn Name: Slippers
Training Level: Intermediate Riding
As our foundation welsh mare, Voo Doo, was starting to age we were on the hunt for a younger broodmare. We are fortunate to know the very reputable welsh pony breeder of Crystal Springs Welsh Ponies in Rocanville, Sk. and decided to take a visit in 2015. We went to buy one broodmare and came home with a package deal of 4 ponies
We bought the beautiful palomino broodmare Slippers, who was imported from the States with a desirable pedigree, including Twyford Dollar Money and Texas Bright Light.
On to the trailer with Slippers came her weanling, Lady, and yearling, Comet, that were full palomino siblings, plus we would be impatiently waiting for her to foal in the spring with the same cross.
We are very excited to have this well-bred welsh mare that exudes Welsh Pony type into our breeding program. She has the sweetest of temperaments and my nieces trained her to ride in 2020 and then showed her in 2021 to give her a break from being a broodmare for a couple of years.
Slippers loves children and really looks after her little riders so we leased her to a family in 2022. However, we have found a stallion in Ontario who is a great grandson to my Grandma’s stallion so we will be breeding Slippers this year and look forward to getting another fantastic foal off of her!
Crystal Springs Lady Slipper
Barn Name: Lady
Training Level: Beginning Driving
When we bought Cleghorn Golden Slippers in 2015 she had a foal at her side which was a full sibling to Crystal Springs Valiant Comet. They are a year apart with the same markings and right away I knew that would be my future team to drive.
Lady is a more reserved pony and we have been taking it slow with her training. We are doing lots of ground work and desensitizing to make sure she has a solid foundation before moving her into harness training.
We look forward to driving Lady with her siblings in the future.
Crystal Springs Gold Tetralogy
Barn Name: Tetra
Training Level: Beginning Driving
Tetra is the 4th full sibling out of Cleghorn Golden Slippers and Crystal Springs Captain Valiant.
We had shown her as a foal in 2016 and then she hadn’t been shown until six years later at The Manitoba Welsh Pony Show in Virden, MB in 2022.
She was a rockstar for us and seemed to really enjoy being back in the show ring. She ended up taking Reserve Supreme Champion of the show!
We have started her ground driving in 2022 and will show her in harness before we start breeding her.
